Walnut High School


The Walnut High School parking lots will be closed during the summer (June through August).  Only a drop off lane will be available (no parking or stopping since it will serve as a fire lane). Please click here for a parking map.


The City offers a wide range of quality swimming lessons and programs for all ages and levels of ability at Walnut High School. The aquatics program will begin Monday, June 3, 2019 and will close Friday, August 9, 2019. Classes run in two week sessions. 

Summer 2019 classes will be published the first week of May 2019

Swim lessons are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety instructors who are also certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program provides instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills.

Private and Adaptive Lessons:

Group Classes:
The City of Walnut aquatic classes emphasize aquatic safety skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach people to swim and to be safe in and around water.

Tiny Tots (Semi-private - up to 3 children per class)
Water orientation for children 2 to 4 years old. Class fee: $65

Guppies - Level 1
An introduction to swimming skills that helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Class fee: $50

Eels - Level 2
Fundamental aquatic skills, building and expanding on aquatic and safety skills. Class fee: $50

Minnows - Level 3
Works on stroke readiness and builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Class fee: $50

Dolphins - Level 4
Develop confidence in the strokes and improves other aquatic skills. Class fee: $50

Sharks - Level 5
Stroke refinement course which provides further coordination and refinement of all strokes. Class fee: $50

Please note that due to the deep water configuration of the Walnut High School pool, no Recreation Swim will be available.

The City will also be offering Adult Lap Swim time as well as Lifeguard and Jr. Lifeguard Camps, Sharks Swim Team, and Swim Stroke Clinics.

Important Aquatic Policies

  • The City of Walnut Recreation Services reserves the right to cancel any class that falls below the minimum required enrollment.

  • Pool Closure: Occasionally the pool may have forced closures due to unexpected accidents or inclement weather. Staff will do it’s best to inform participants immediately of all closures. In the event of a pool closure, we will be unable to make up any missed classes. There will be no proportion of class fees for missed classes due to unexpected pool closures.

  • Smog Policy: The South Coast Air Quality Management team states that all strenuous physical activities which require mouth breathing should be discontinued with 1st stage smog alerts. The City of Walnut Community Services will strictly adhere to this policy and close the swimming program at any time there is a 1st stage smog alert.
  • Refund Policy: There will be a $10 service charge per class per person on ALL REQUESTED REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS. Refunds will only be considered if requested seven days in advance of the first class meeting. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED AFTER THAT TIME UNLESS INITIATED BY THE DEPARTMENT.
